Why Am I Doing this?

In Aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital

2007 Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity. Registered charity no. 235825

Everyone knows that Great Ormond Street Hospital is a place that saves children’s lives on a daily basis and no one knows this better than my family and I.

I have first hand experience and a collection of scars to show how the amazing people in this hospital saved my life. As a baby I needed open-heart surgery and thankfully this hospital, it’s amazing teams and equipment was on hand to do this because without this life saving operation I would never have seen my first birthday.

Being born almost 2 months early weighing just 3½lbs my parents were told that I had a heart murmur but it wasn’t expected to cause any problems. When I was 4months old I went blue and limp after a coughing fit and after my mum rushed me to hospital was told I was in heart failure. I then got transferred to Great Ormond Street Hospital and they found I had a large hole in my heart.

I was stabilised and given heart drugs to take regularly over the next few months. At 11 months after finding the hole was bigger than expected they decided to operate. They had to patch the hole which meant stopping and opening my heart while I was on a heart-lung bypass machine.

Thankfully the operation was a success and once I had recovered from the operation I was back to myself and catching up fast.

Although no amount of money will ever be enough to thank this hospital for saving my life, I am determined to raise money to help them to continue to save many more children’s lives just like mine.
