Where will the money raised go?
Great Ormond Street Hospital provides world class and inspirational care to hundreds of children every day.
This hospital needs to raise £50 million every year to contribute towards vital equipment, life changing research and much needed redevelopment to the wards and the hospital itself.
All money that I raise could contribute towards:
- The 7 year redevelopment project bringing it to the world class standards needed to cater for the estimated 20,000 more patients visiting each year. This will include making sure there is enough space around a child’s bed for parents and family to stay as long as they feel the need with ease and building a new Cardiac theatre for heart patients.
- To gain specific more expensive medical equipment as it is for babies and children, to continue and improve their quality of care. As it is specialised to babies and children it is more expensive to purchase yet vital to carry on the care provided. Heart and lung bypass machines are needed to keep children alive during operations and ventilators to help tiny babies to breathe when they are not able to do so alone.
- Patient and family support. The powerful presence of siblings and parents helps children recover with your help they can provide beds so parents can be on hand to comfort to give hugs anytime day or night. Many families have travelled hundreds of miles so that their child can be treated at this hospital and funding will help them to be able to stay close to the hospital if not inside next to them.
- A key role in preventing, treating and curing life threatening illnesses is the research that this hospital constantly carries out. It has been one of the 3 main ambitions of this hospital since it opened in 1852. They are trying to create a treatment that will increase the chances of successful bone marrow transplants and to discover what triggers certain blood cells to grow into leukaemia-causing cells. They try to reduce the child’s suffering by developing kinder treatments like key hole technique instead of open heart surgery and so much more.
Children in this hospital are so ill with complex and life threatening illnesses that they cannot be treated anywhere else in this country and often in surrounding countries too and come to Great Ormond Street Hospital because it is known that they have some of the best paediactric surgeons and doctors in the world.
With your help we can give hope to children and their families and continue to make this hospital the very special place that it is.
